Graduation Attire, Built to Order

Custom graduation cap and gown programs almost always specify the headwear last, and it is the part most often got wrong. This line is that headwear: the standard mortarboard, the velvet tam worn at doctoral level, and the trim, tassel and crest work that identifies the degree level.

Headwear is made to order rather than stocked. Mortarboards are Pantone-matched to the gown and hood, tams are specified by color, number of points and tassel, and the year charm is chosen per ceremony. Doctoral headwear is cut in velvet rather than the cloth used at bachelor's and master's level, and may carry a gold tassel — the one tassel color the US code reserves for doctorates. One order can cover a whole conferring class, and crests can be embroidered or woven on request.

Minimum order is 50 units per style and color. Caps can be bought on their own or matched to gowns and hoods from the same dye lot, and bulk production runs 30 to 45 days after sample approval.

What is the difference between a graduation cap and a tam?

A cap (mortarboard, or trencher) is the flat, square headwear worn at bachelor's and master's level. A tam is the soft-crowned, six- or eight-pointed velvet headwear that many universities use to mark a doctorate rather than a lower degree. We make both, in the institution's colors.

Can you match the cap to a gown we already have?

Yes. Send the reference color and we Pantone-match the cap, then return lab dips within 48 hours. If the gown is also ordered from us, cap, gown and hood are cut to the same dye lot so the finish is identical. See cap and gown sets for the matched option.

Do you supply doctoral tams separately?

Yes — tams can be ordered on their own or as part of a doctoral set. Colour, points and tassel are specified per institution, and a school crest can be added on request.
